Sleeping foxes...

I think these are foxes but some would say that they are wolves.
For me and the way that I make things wolves have longer snouts, but the overall shape is very similar.
I like the idea of these being foxes.
This is a new pattern I'm still perfecting but thought that I would give you sneak peak at them.
I consciously want to move away from the jointed figures and move more into experimental pattern cutting.
I'm self taught at all this so I'm making lots of mistakes along the way but I think you learn more this way.

The fox with the embroidery is made from a vintage tablecloth which is fantastic,I only wish it was bigger!
I think I may be able to get another animal out of whats left.
The most difficult part was getting the fox to curl up tightly. Too loose and the fox almost appears dead or injured which isn't something I'm particularly going for right now.
The inspiration comes from sleeping cats,as you may know from my blog Ive got 3 and anyone who has cats will know that they sleep in the most bizarre places and often curl up beautifully.
One of the cats we have is called Vivienne and although not the most gracefull of creatures sleeps in really brilliant poses, often with her paws over her eyes which I love!
They display easily too and look really peacefull on a pile of books just as they are.
In the new year I will hopefully have a new stuffing supplier which i have found practically on my doorstep which is great. Then I want to make some bigger things, a life size fox asleep, wouldn't that be lovely.

More bird memorials....

Here is the full set of dead birds that Ive made.
All the chest pieces have been engraved with there names and inscriptions.
Life size and with little rings on the back so they can be hung if needed.
In my studio they hang, still, peaceful and sombre.

George fell asleep 7-4-54

Coco 1936-1938

Roberto My little angel 1947

Harry 1920-24

My little friend 'Ernest' How I miss your song

Arthur The best friend I ever had.

Ruby My darling friend 1946

Beluga fell asleep3.2.1975

I'm very into death, hibernation ad sleeping things at the moment.
Its very likely due to the season and how cold it is here in the UK.
I know that they are not the best images but its the best I could do with the available light!

Working on this raven/crow toy today I have to write something on his chest which is covered with the bowl section of an antique spoon. Now that I have my engraver ready to go my minds gone blank of what to write on it...
Hes wearing a mask made of vintage diamante and sits on a little wooden cart.
I'm not sure whats going to happen to him I just needed to make him.
Will get some better images taken of him when hes absolutely finished and we have some decent daylight arrive.

I love this crow by one of my favourite artists

anna wili highfield

She makes the most beautiful things mostly birds,if you google her you see lots of her other work.

Here is an interview with her,Ive tried to embed it but no matter what I do it wont work so here's the link.

If ever there was an example of beauty, talent and elegance...

what a mess...

Look at my desk.....where do I begin?

Some new wolves in different fabrics Ive made too....

An amazing firework fabric I found..I will be sad when its all gone!

This one made from a 70's wall hanging with deers and foliage on.

I did my stall today...it was okay.
Lets leave it at that.!
Some how I got the impression people didn't really believe that I made the things on my stall!?
Bizarre.I know I'm a man who sews.......anyway.
Rich showy women and champagne.
A large glass of wine and the world will be alright I think!

Blue spider...

The sun came out really strong for the briefest moment this morning so I grabbed my camera and a little spider I had yet to to photograph.

They had some really great shadows.
The spiders are really lovely to make but they do take quite a bit of time and are very fiddly.
In the time it takes to make a small one I'm sure i could have made a far bigger one.
This one is made from a vintage tie.

He reminds me of a spider form a book that i was obsessed with growing up...The snow spider by Jenny Nimmo-its beautiful and set in Wales where my mother lives.

Its one of three books that follow on from each other but you can read it on its own.
Its a child's book but like so many things for children there is something different reading it as an adult now.
If you get chance to read it do its dark and pretty.

I actually have the snow spider tattooed at the bottom of my neck, sometimes I forget that its there and get a glimpse of it in the mirror.

How cool is this I came across on the web-no pun intended!

Ive been working on this pattern for ages now it seems and has been tricky to get right but the last few that Ive made Ive been happy with.
Pug dogs!! its something that Ive wanted to make in a while.
Very tightly stuffed and aged with tea and coffee they sit on my desk looking at me.

I really quite like them and fear of naming them as I'm already growing attached to them!

Its so nice working from home especially now as when I look out of the window its snowing heavily and Ive got my sewing machine and a large mug of tea.!!
I sound like an old woman!!

Look at how deep the snow is!

Its so nice but at the same time its a pain.Ive been making so much lately as i have a stall at a Christmas market and Ive got a feeling its going to be cancelled.
Hope not....
Ill keep you posted -keep your fingers crossed for me.

I came across this Martha Stewart tree the other day and I think I'm a bit obsessed with it.
Isn't it beautiful,if you look really close you can see all the little birds in its branches.
Love it. I don't think ill be able to do it this year but at some point I'm gonna make one too.

I came across this image also,i don't know who took it but I adore it.

Hope everyone is feeling festive!!
