clouds...

Apologies for the lack of posts but again Ive been a bit hectic.
Ive been making mobiles to go on my stall.
Rain clouds with button and chandelier rain pieces. With the serious lack of light now its really hard to get images to look half decent in winter. I do have special lamps but nothing ever beats the sun.

Mr Moon...

Another moon and this time in a doll,im really quite fond of him. Sometimes its hard to let go of stuff if you are just making things for no-one in paticular. If I work on a commision then I never get attached to pieces as from the begining it doesnt belong to me.

Dead birds...

Came across this a little while ago and I thought it was so charming....

A miners canary in a tiny coffin, here's the story to go with it.

19th century coal miners would traditionally take canaries in cages down into the mine with them. The birds would act as an early warning system for carbon monoxide gas. When the canary stopped singing the miner would know that he had to escape the chamber he was in. This particular yellow canary was obviously a favored pet as well as a working bird. Inscribed with the legend : 'In Memory of Little Joe. Died November 3rd 1875. Aged 3 Years' (from The British Antique Dealers' Association

It inspired some pieces I'm still working on. Dead birds made from textiles and thread as tiny reminders of a tiny life, insignificance, loss and most importantly a friend who would be missed.

So Ive been making and still making a collection of feathered friends who have sadly gone but are remembered.
Each one is made from lots of scraps of fabric and wire and each has a section of a vintage spoon on its chest. These will eventually be sewn on (excuse the pins in the images) and engraved with the birds name and message etc.
Around the spoon plaque I'm edging them with diamante and broken vintage jewellery.

In my head the idea is that an elderly dressmaker whenever he finds a dead bird copies them in fabric and names them so they are never forgotten.

the moon..........

Today I finished the moon I have been working on,hes something that ive wanted to make for ages, hes quite big I dont know if you can get from the image the size of him but hes on some stairs.Hes wearing a black mask which is something im a bit into at the moment putting masks on things!

Most of the things im making at the moment look a bit sad and meloncholy, dont know why but its seems to suit me,the weather and the seasons ect.

Sorry!

Sorry that ive not blogged in what seems forever but I have been busy and I have been making things and I have had camera and computer problems!!
But hopefully all being well I can make regular posts and keep you up to date with things.Been changing the patterns and tweaking colours ect.
Have a look and tell me what you think.

Some new birds Ive been working on, the magpies I have made previously where very slow to sell so as much as I loved them they weren't a money spinner.
So Ive changed the pattern and used a more neutral colour palette.
I'm pleased with them.
Most of the new things Ive made are going to a stall I'm doing in a couple of weeks.

Again the hares have changed this time with different placement of ears and arms which can really change the moods of the pieces.
The eyes are different on everything now a more sleepy look which I like.

Vivienne with new bird head pincushions.

the chaos which is my work room...
